Establishing the Agile PMO; Managing Variability across Projects and Portfolios  

Portfolio management helps to balance the demand on the firm's resources from multiple competing and sometimes inter-dependent projects. Traditional Project/Portfolio Management Office supports the Project/Portfolio Managers. As more and more of our Project Managers become Scrum Masters and the Portfolio Managers becomes the Group Scrum Master, our PMO needed to become an Agile PMO itself.

Our IT division comprises of 4 Portfolio groups that align with the departments on the Business/Operations side. We converted our Traditional PMO that supported the Project Managers to an Agile PMO that staffed experienced Agile coaches who supported the different Portfolio and Agile Project Teams. The services included conducting Agile Training, starting up new Agile teams, encouraging Team Empowerment, transforming existing roles, artifacts and processes to become more Agile, capturing metrics across Portfolio and Project Teams and creating the Management reports.

About Ash Tengshe

Ash Tengshe works as a Process Manager/Agile Coach with Capital One Auto Finance in the PMO department. Ash is an ex-Thoughtworker who has embraced Agile and firmly believes in Team Empowerment, Retrospectives and Customer Satisfaction.

Ash was instrumental in successfully deploying Agile at COAF and currently acts as a Program Coach. In his current role, Ash supports 10+ Agile Teams at a Program Level, conducts Agile Training and tries to remove Organizational obstacles in the path towards Agile Nirvana.
